If you were one of the seven dwarves would your name be “wheezy” because you are practically gasping for air all of the time? Even though being winded after working out may be normal, if you have noticed that you are short of breath a lot, then you may be wondering whether or not you have asthma. Here at Allergy and ENT Associates, we have over 58 years of experience dealing with patients with asthma, and we are one of the most trusted names in asthma care in the state of Texas, which means that, well, this isn’t our first rodeo. Let’s take a closer look at how we can diagnose you with asthmaa.
The last thing that you want is to get an improper diagnosis. Here at our office, we pride ourselves on taking the time and doing the research in order to make sure that you do in fact have asthma. One of the best ways that we test our patients for asthma is with a pulmonary function test called spirometry.
Spirometry: Spirometry is one of the most common types of Pulmonary Function Tests or PFTs, which measure the amount of volume and flow of air that can be inhaled or exhaled into your lungs. This tool helps us give patients a proper diagnosis and then create a treatment plan that’s geared toward you and your specific needs.
During this procedure, you will hold a small device up to your mouth, place your lips over it, and breathe into it which allows us to measure (as previously mentioned) the volume and airflow from your lungs.
